5 Steps To Setting Effective Goals

If you must succeed, you must set goals because goals are just as necessary to success as oxygen is to life.
You can’t succeed without setting goals.
Goals are your “indicators or markers” which will let you know that you are going the right direction. Just like indicators or markers in Biochemistry and Chemistry show what a compound or substance is same as goals to our lives.
Effective goal help you show your path, understand how close and serve as motivation for you, that’s what goals will do for you, if it is properly set.
Here are 5 necessary steps important for effective goal setting:
1. Set specific goals and write them down to achieve them;
Many people wander through life like sheep without sherpard. In their mind, they have some vague idea of what they would like to accomplish, but it’s more of a dream, than a goal.
As a first step in goal setting, you must have a clear vision about your objective.
After a clear vision, you should document the goal and the steps necessary to achieve it. You are much more likely to accomplish a goals that have written plans for their achievement. And always remember to be specific: Specificity allows for clarity, clarity allows for motivation, and motivation is the fuel to your destination.
2. Your goals must be achievable, inspiring, and must have deadline;
Your must believe your goal and make people believe you. If your goal is not believable, you will not be motivated to achieve it.
Recognize your own mental limits and stretch them gradually. Stretch them to the degree that you believe they can be stretched.
i) Your goal must be achievable; If you are consistently setting goals that you do not achieve, you are building a memory bank of failure. You can start by setting smaller but inspiring goals, and build a history of small successes that lead to your major victory.
ii) Your goal must be inspiring; Inspiration and motivation will drive you to your goal. If you are not inspired, you will not make it very far in life.
iii) Your goal must have a specific deadline; Give goals a definite deadline, no extra time, you do not have that much time to waste even any of it. I will achieve these goals by 4:00pm WAT on Saturday, October 28, 2017(my close friends will tell you about this date). If your goal is not this specific, it’s just a dream.
3. Your goals must be seen daily;
It is paramount that you see your goals everyday. We have all heard the saying, “seeing is believing,” and this is especially true when it comes to goal setting. Write down your goals in a book and hang it where you can see it everyday, this will serve as a drive for you and make you think more of how to achieve it because you already have when to achieve it.
Keeping your goal in front of you everyday, keeps you focused, everyday. The greater your focus the faster you will achieve your goal. So place pictures of your goals where you will see them everyday, or have a special time of meditation where you visualize and see where you are going daily. This will keep you motivated, when your goal seems far away or impossible.
4. You should have long-term and short-term goals;
Most people have long-term goals (5 years and beyond), but it is also important to have short-term goals. Short-term goals offer greater motivation. I like to have 4-month goals(a semester). They provide easy measurement, and allow me to make updates and changes. They also keeps me focused so that I can avoid procrastinating. Long-term goals may tempt you to delay action, you keep on waiting and waiting and never get started because you will keep thinking there is still much time.
5. Always work with focus toward achieving your goals everyday;
This is why it’s critical to do what you love. It is easy to work on your goals everyday when there fun and you enjoy what you do. Focus on things that can help you realize your goals. Do what you love to do and enjoy every bit of it. Remember the poplar saying "do what you love, and you will never work another day in your life!"
I want you to make 2014 a great year by envisioning long and short term goals.
Go succeed
